Suspected Leaking Oil Tank in Stone:

Customer contacted MTS Oil Tanks as they believed that their steel domestic heating Oil Tank was leaking. We attended the customers property and thoroughly inspected their single skinned steel Oil Tank.

The Tank was not leaking but was beginning to corrode along its bottom seam. We carried out an Oil Tank risk assessment and advised that the Tank had limited life expectancy and the customer should seriously consider replacement in the near future.

The customer decided to have a new Tank but wanted it placed in a different location. This required the digging out of a flower bed, the expansion of a patio, remedial work on the surrounding walls and the Tank placed approximately 18” above ground level in order for the Oil Flow to feed an old Oil fired range cooker.

The New Oil Tank Installation in Stone

A 1350 litre Bunded Oil Tank with an integral anti-overspill device was fitted with a 10 year warranty. The Tank was placed on a concrete slab platform above concrete lintels and concrete blocks. The Tank had to be craned into position due to having to be lifted over 6’ walls. The new Tanks new pipe work was connected to the old pipe work and any air in the system removed. The Tanks new position was fully compliant with current building regulations. An Apollo Electronic contents gauge was also fitted for ease of gauging the quantity of fuel in the Tank.

Fuel Transfer and Oil Tank Removal in Stone

Fuel was transferred from the old Tank to the new with any contaminated fuel from the bottom of the old steel Tank being removed and disposed off. The old steel Tank was fully drained, removed from site, cleaned and disposed off as per the waste regulations.
